Of course, I have no choice but to understand the lyrics personally, but I hope that I can help you feel the charm of Kozo Murashita even more. (⇒Click here for a detailed “idea” about Kozo Murashita’s music commentary and lyric appreciation on this site)
The editor set the goal of explaining all of Mr. Murashita’s songs, and first created an article explaining the hidden masterpieces with a ranking format.
↑Since this article(JAPANESE ver.) has been completed for the time being, I decided to work on representative songs such as “Odoriko(Dancer)”, “Shojo(A girl)”, and “Hidamari(In the Sunshine)” that were in demand.
Let’s get started! The full lyrics are attached at the bottom, so if you want to refer to the whole song, please use it as appropriate.

Cicada drizzle in the distance, a summer twilight when sparkles the water through the blinds
Commentary
This song was written for Rumiko Takahashi’s original anime “Meson Ikkoku”. From the intro, which sounds like the sound of drums as a cue to run under the open sky, the melody and story unfolds throughout the entire story, one of the brightest among Kozo Murashita’s works .
For those of you who have seen “Maison Ikkoku”, I wonder if Godai-kun will grow up and finally marry Kyoko-san at the end of the story…! You may remember that it was the theme song at the stage. The scene where Godai talks to Soichiro in front of his grave makes me cry when I recall the anime.
Excuse me! It’s not a story about Maison Ikkoku (laughs).
Thinking of you, my heart pounding like a stone jumping on the surface of a river
As a basic scene setting, I have an image of a man thinking of a woman (with whom he will surely be married by now) and running down a road with a cloudless blue sky . Along the road where the man was running so lightly that he didn’t even feel the weight of his body, the “Cicada drizzle” was overflowing “far” to the other side of the sky, almost reaching the woman.
In front of a private house as he passes by, he will come across people sprinkling water to cool off in the “twilight” when the heat is waning. The spray must have just fallen on the feet of the running man, shining in the sunlight that turned into the setting sun.
As each droplet shines and bounces off the road surface, the man overlaps the scene with the lightness of his mind and body. It may have been that he felt his heart flutter as he ruminated on his feelings for the woman who created that lightness, and even the sight of himself “thinking” of the woman like “a stone jumping on the surface of a river” made his heart tremble.Hmm.
The city where the heat haze flickers
Look at the sky far away from this place
The heat of the midsummer daytime overlaps with the heat of the feelings that the man yearn for the woman, and his feelings rise to the point that a shimmering “heat haze” spreads over the city. The Man and the woman don’t always live at a distance where they can see each other. “From this place” where he is standing now, he “looks at the sky” in the far direction where the woman would live and spreads his arms out and say,
Ah, I want to see you I want to
hear your voice right now
Does she feel the same way? What should I say first when we meet next time? In the midst of the comfort and emotion of feeling like being inhaled into the sky, he also wishes in his heart, “I want to see you, I want to hear your voice right now.”
In the twinkling sunset, when we smile and turn our
wishes into prayers
“In the sunset” the man imagines the “twinkling” expression of the woman beyond the beautiful scenery while raising his face to the sky. Of course, he also sent a “smile” to her, and changed his hope of wanting to share and spend the rest of their lives with a prayer instead of a mere wish. Then,
I want you to shine without forgetting the most important thing
Speaks to the woman. We had a lot of things to do with each other, but you know the “most important thing”, right? To walk together from now on, to love people at all times, to be able to do it together … I want you to keep shining like you, who can “remember” that kind of thing.
(Because I will always love you, now and in the future.) )
I want to see you soon , I want to shout out one word from the bottom of my heart,
I believed that we would meet and love each other some day
The Man’s feelings reache their climax. The scene may be a continuation of the sunset sky, or it may be on the way home from work or school one day. It’s a complete fantasy, but perhaps through letters and phone calls with the woman, did he find out that she felt the same way? He thinks, “if that happens I want to see you as soon as possible.
I want to meet you soon and say, from the bottom of my heart, I ‘believed’ that the things we had encountered, the difficulties we had had, and the things we had passed were all connected to this moment, and that we were destined to ‘meet and love each other someday.'” The Man’s thoughts fly to the future to come.
If I start walking,
I want you to follow my back
If I find something fun, interesting, or nice and “start walking, I want you to follow my back.” I will never leave you alone. There’s no such thing as being with someone else, ’cause
Oh, I’m all alone for you alone
“I’m all alone for you alone,” and even now I’m “alone.” I know very well that there is no one else I can live with other than you.
And the time should finally come. Whether it’s the man’s feelings or reality, it gets mixed up, but this kind of depicting is one of Mr. Murashita’s characteristics.
On a spring afternoon when flower petals flutter,
I’ll change my prayers into vows
The seasons change, the man and the woman get married. “On a spring afternoon when flower petals flutter”, he “changes his prayers” to her into “vows” to spend their lives together. Furthermore, he’s sure she feels the same way, and it will turn into a “vow” between the two of them.
The two of us gather the light in the sunshine
We can share the kindness
We can “gather the light” of love and “share kindness” with each other in the warm sunshine . This part seems to simply depict a wedding scene, but considering the depth of Mr. Murashita’s other songs,I personally think that he’s trying to express a more abstract and beautiful scene. The man stares at the woman next to him and thinks,
I want you to shine without forgetting the most important thing
I want you to continue to remember the “most important thing”, such as the fact that you feel this way now, that this kind of feeling exists in this world, and I want you to “shine ” forever.
(Because I will always love you, before, now, and in the future.)
Supplement
In order to keep the above description as far away from “Maison Ikkoku” as possible, I started with this song and its lyrics itself. However, I don’t think it ‘s a problem at all if you think it’s a direct depiction of the development of the Maison Ikkoku anime. In that case, would it be like Godai-kun’s monologue as a whole? The lyrics may be too mature for that (laughs).
The fact that the scenes are a little less drawn and the lyrics are written in a way that makes you feel closer to your own feelings probably has something to do with the anime.
Highlight
I think this is almost the only work by Mr. Murashita that has a bright melody from the beginning to the end, and the story is happy and has a bright future.
Another song that came to my mind just now was “Chiisana yane no shita (under a small roof)” [included in “Izukoe (Where to?)”].
Those of you who know Maison Ikkoku will be able to enjoy the story together while remembering the relationship between Godai-kun and Kyoko-san while remembering the scene I wrote above. Even if that’s not the case, in this song, Mr. Murashita’s voice is clearly visible, and you can enjoy his beautiful voice even more.
Judging from the quality of his voice, it is possible that Mr. Murashita himself did the background chorus, which I think is also quite rare. Beautiful voice + beautiful voice to create a beautiful harmony. Of course, there are ups and downs, but perhaps the point of this song is that you can listen to the whole song like a chorus.
Editor’s opinion on the song
The first thing I felt while writing this commentary article this time is that I am glad that such a person exists. Because of his discipline, there was a story that he wrote the song after watching all episodes of the “Maison Ikkoku” anime.
As I often mention in articles about all his hidden masterpieces, it is amazing that he can draw the “important things” as they are, without explaining them with logic. Mr. Murashita has many difficult lyrics at first glance, but I remember the feeling that the more I savor it, the deeper my own heart grows .
Although! This “Hidamari” is a work that expresses the feeling of love in the middle of it, so please enjoy it in your own way ☆
